Join us for an unforgettable 16-day photo adventure in Patagonia during the height of the Patagonian springtime. Nov. 24 to Dec. 9th, 2018. This departure is specifically timed for the peak of spring when most of the birds and mammals will be found with their new born babies. Wildflowers will also be in great profusion. This trip begins in Coyhaique, Chile and ends in Punta Arenas, Chile. Price US$6,350 per person dbl. occ., (single occ. add 20%), (International and domestic air travel not included).     Day 1

    Morning flight from Santiago, Chile following the spine of the Andes Range south to Balmaceda/Coyhaique (3 hours with one stop in Puerto Montt). The earliest flight of the day is best in order to get the most out of the day's visit to Estancia Punta del Monte. We stop for lunch in Coyahique before travelling to the Estancia near the Argentine border one hour to the west. Our main goal is getting with in close range to photograph Andean Condors at two cliff sites within the Estancia. Scenery and local Patagonian gauchos also. Overnight stay at Estancia.

    Day 2

    Drive north to Puerto Natales with an AM stop at the Seno Otway Penguin Reserve along the way. Lunch stop at historic Estancia. Afternoon photography along seashore in Puerto Natales, abundant native waterfowl and flamingoes along the shoreline of Last Hope Sound. Overnight in Puerto Natales.

    Day 3

    Drive north into Torres del Paine National Park via the new south road. Overnight at Hosteria Pehoe.

    Day 4

    Today we make a full-day photographic journey into the heart of the Torres del Paine Park. We will choose which drives or day-hikes to do considering the weather, views, and desires of the group. Valle Frances, Glacier Grey (possible boat trip across lake to base of glacier) or Valle del Silencio, a day without need for definition as the beauty abounds as will the photographic opportunities. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Hosteria Pehoe.

    Day 5

    Today we make another full-day journey into the heart of the Torres del Paine Park. We will choose which drives or day-hikes to do considering the weather, views, and desires of the group. Valle Frances, Glacier Grey (possible boat trip across lake to base of glacier) or Valle del Silencio, a day without need for definition as the beauty abounds as will the photographic opportunities. In the afternoon we will leave the park and travel to the historic Estancia Cerro Guido, one of Patagonia's largest sheep estancias. Here we will experience a traditional patagonian "Asado" or lamb roast. Estancia stay.

    Day 6

    Early AM outing to hopefully catch the sunrise on the Paine Towers. The estancia has a commanding view so we need not venture far. Following breakfast we will spend some time photographing activities around the estancia. We will then begin our drive in to Argentina and on the town of El Calafate. Overnight at B&B in El Calafate.

    Day 7

    Today begins with a predawn visit to the Laguna Nimez Reserve to photograph native waterfowl and flamingoes. After breakfast we will drive in to the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the few glaciers in the world that is actually advancing! Following lunch we will make the 3 hour drive north to the small tourist town of El Chalten located at the base Fitzroy massif. Overnight B&B stay.

    Day 8

    Early morning outing in hopes of catching the spectacular Fitzroy massif bathed in the dawn alpenglow. Return to Hosteria for breakfast. Today we make an all-day hike starting right from town. We begin with a 2 hour walk up to the picturesque Laguna Capri where we will enjoy a picnic while photographing the area. Those who wish have the option of returning back to El Chalten from here. For those with the legs and energy to continue further, it is recommended to continue on from Laguna Capri hiking the trail along the base of the amazing Fitzroy Massif with its unparalleled opportunities to capture images of the mystical mountain spires. The trail continues on down along the Rio Blanco through an enchanting old growth Lenga forest eventually ending at the Hosteria El Pilar where will enjoy a much deserved cup of tea and a snack. This is a long day hike, 6-7 hours with 300-400 meters elevation gain. One of the guides will have driven the vehicle around to meet us for the drive back to El Chalten. B&B stay in El Chalten. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

    Day 9

    We make an early morning outing once again to drive up the road in hopes of catching images of the spectacular Fitzroy massif bathed in the dawn alpenglow. Return to Hosteria for breakfast. Following breakfast we will begin our drive north into the vast expanse of the Patagonian pampa. We make our way to a remote estancia that is located next to a vast wetlands and we will have ample opportunities to photograph the abundant native birds waterfowl. This area is know for being on of the best places to see the very rare Tobiana Grebe. The estancia is owned by descendants of Yugoslavian immigrants and has a very interesting history. Overnight estancia stay.

    Day 10

    Today we long drive north along the famous Ruta 40 to the remote patagonian town of Lago Posadas. In the afternoon we may have the opportunity to visit an impressive Tehuelche Indian pictograph site near the village. Overnight at Hosteria.

    Day 11

    Today we will drive west along the shore of Lago Pueyrredon visiting a a beautiful basaltic stone arch along the lake. We then cross into Argentina and into the Estancia Valle Cahacabuco (Future Patagonia National Park. After making our way through this extensive valley, we arrive at the headquarters of this future national park presently being developed by American Conservationists Kris and Doug Tompkins along with Conservacion Patagonica (see links). Afternoon orientation with a park representative. Overnight at the Park's luxurious new lodge facility.

    Day 12

    Today begins with a predawn drive up the road to photograph the sunrise, return for a late breakfast. We then drive west out of the park and on to the powerful Baker River falls. We will spend several hours here experimenting with time exposures, etc. in search of that perfect shot. From here we will continune north to Lago General Carrera, South America's 2nd largest lake. We will overnight at the picturesque lakeside town of Puerto Tranquilo.

    Day 13

    Today's main objective will be to explore the new road accessing the remote Valle Exploradores which offers commanding views of Cerro San Valentin, Patagonia's highest peak at 4,058 meters (13,314 ft), views of several spectacular glaciers flowing off the north side of the Northern Patagonia Ice Field. A short hike to an overlook on top the Exploradores Glacier terminal moraine provides an amazing panoramic view. Opportunities to photograph rainforest birds and vegetation. Picnic lunch in the field. Overnight at lodge in Puerto Tranquilo on the shore of Lago General Carrera.

    Day 14

    Today we will take an early AM boat excursion to the visit the exotic marble caves along the shore of Lago General Carrera. In the afternoon we will drive north along the lake, later passing by the spectacular Cerro Castillo. After photographing this unique mountain we will drive over the Cerro Castillo pass where hopefully we can get a glimpse of a rare Huemul deer. We will finish our day at a gorgeous lodge near the town of Coyhaique.

    Day 15

    Today we will depart very early and drive to the east to the Estancia Punta del Monte. Here our main objective will be to try and get close to photograph some Andean Condors that congregate at two locations within the estancia. Later on we will spend some time photographing around the estancia where during this time of the year there is often much activity with sheep shearing, etc. We will overnight at well appointed lodge nearby where we will a celebrate our farewell with a traditional Patagonian "Asado" dinner of roast lamb.

    Day 16:

    Today we bid farewell and you will catch your flight home from the Coyhaique/Balmaceda airport. (code:BBA). End of tour.....
